Voice Dialogue

The Voice Dialogue method was adopted by the psychologists Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone in the 1970s in the USA and has been constantly evolving ever since. They have discovered that the inner voices that make up the human psyche act side by side with autonomous “persons” with their own feelings, memories, and views:

We have an “inner family”

Voice Dialogue makes it possible to establish contact with these inner personalities, to make them heard and to train our awareness of the respective inner “main persons” as well as for their hidden, repressed “opponents”. Hal and Sidra call this process the active development of a conscious ego process.

The positive consequences of Voice Dialogue

  • We gain more awareness.
  • Our communication and relationships are improving.
  • Retracted situations and behaviors can dissolve.

Does that perhaps sound familiar to you?

  • Do you want to tackle a specific project for a long time, e.g. exercise more, eat healthier, etc. and somehow it never works?
  • Do you keep getting hooked with certain people, such as your partner, your children, your boss, so that there are regular conflicts or disputes?
  • Can you sometimes make a hard decision because there are so many voices and arguments for the pros and cons that you end up just being confused and doing nothing at all? Or have you made a decision and immediately a voice appears in you that completely questions and doubts it?
  • Are there people or situations that put you directly “on 180” and you feel you can’t do anything about it?
  • Do you sometimes feel small and insecure by the behaviour of others and don’t know why?

This is in fact often behind it

In the situations described, our various inner voices or personality parts are usually at work. According to Hal and Sidra Stone, the founders of the Voice Dialogue method, each person has many different parts in him. We rate some of these shares as good and identify with them. In other words, one of these shares takes the lead in us, so that at this moment we react and act for the most part under his will. Access to the authority within us responsible for our conscious action – the conscious self – seems to be blocked at this moment.

We reject shares that we consider to be bad and displace them into our subconscious. It is precisely these suppressed parts that we encounter in the outside – in people or situations that upset or overwhelm us.

The Voice Dialogue method helps us to become aware of all our parts, to accept them and to develop a conscious self. In this way, we decide according to our own will and are no longer subject to the unintentional leadership of a single personality.
